Stories of Helping With Furniture

HWF is about moments like this:  While helping to set up a home, two of our volunteers heard a little boy of nine whisper into his father's ear: "Dad, we have a home now." To which the mother added, beaming: "And we can invite people over!"

How It All Started

In 2005 Nathalie Maione and Buffy Cassidy, two friends with home-based businesses and families of their own, heard about struggling young families living in such bare apartments they sometimes lacked beds to sleep in or tables to eat at. They felt compelled to help. Collecting donations of furniture and household goods, the two women managed to furnish an apartment for a family of four from Mexico who were very much in need.

In the years since then, HWF has grown. We now have scores of volunteers who work an average of 150 hours each week to deliver the necessities of a home to people in need. We’ve grown, but the actions of our volunteers, our donors and supporters still reflect the simple feeling that spurred our founders.

We feel compelled to help.  It's all about new beginnings.
