Meet Valentina from the Client Selection Team

After moving to Canada, Valentina heard about Helping With Furniture (HWF) at her son's school and she was so touched by its mandate to furnish homes that she knew she had to be a part of the organization. For two years now she's worked in the Client Selection Team, helping HWF to prioritize clients and to contact families to let them know they're next in line.

"Through their voices I can feel the struggle, the sadness and the exasperation. When I tell them that we are going to be able to help them, there is a change in their tone and that makes me so happy that I would just like to go through the phone and give them a hug!"

The Client Selection Team members reach out to approximately eight clients/families a week. They are the first members of Helping With Furniture that a client will speak to. Then, they transfer the clients to the Visiting/Assessment team.

"Every time I finish my client selection I feel excited and happy that they will receive their furniture and until then, I think of them. I imagine how they must feel that finally they will be sleeping on proper beds, that they will sit on comfortable sofas. I remain alert until the day they do have their furniture and household items."
