Give Furniture
Thank you for considering donating your gently-used furniture, household goods, bicycles and laptops! Please note that we are currently in particular need of the following items:
Microwaves, toasters, small appliances and lamps;
Flatscreen televisions (over 27") and television stands;
Couches, love seats, and living room chairs;
Curtains, curtain brackets and rods of all sizes;
Bed frames (all sizes); box springs (all sizes); single/twin mattresses in mint condition less than 10 years old; double, queen and king mattresses in mint condition less than 5 years old;
We accept drop-off donations on Wednesdays from 6pm-9pm and Saturdays from 10:00am-1pm. We are located at 1455 Michael Street Unit 3. If you have any questions, please send an email at specialdropoff@hwfottawa.org. Please note we cannot accept large furniture such as: large desks, large China Cabinets, TV Armoires, TV Units. Please consult the listing below to see what are the items we accept.
Donors can book a pickup via the Request for Pickup by HWF truck form below. We are slowly re-instating our pickups by the HWF truck and will book pickups of multiple items, or items that are too big to transport. To determine if pickup is available in your area at this time, please see this map. Please make sure to book reasonably in advance. We do book quickly!
Generally, we accept the following list of items. We never accept donations of clothing.
List of Furniture and Household Goods
Bedroom
We ACCEPT:
Single/twin mattresses in mint condition less than 10 years old; double, queen and king mattresses in mint condition less than 5 years old.
Photo must be provided for preliminary assessment of acceptance. The ultimate decision to accept mattresses is made at the warehouse.
All mattresses should be dropped off or ready for collection wrapped in a plastic bag or mattress protector for protection during transportation.Bedframes (Headboards, footboards & metal bed frames) – simple assembly
Bunk bed (simple to assemble)
Dressers
Night tables
Bedroom linens (bed sheets, blankets and bed spread) - Please indicate size.
We DO NOT accept: odd shape beds; foldaway beds; futons; beds/mattresses with stains or tears
Living Room
We ACCEPT:
Sofas and love seats (under width 7’)
Living room armchairs
End tables
Coffee tables (if square no larger than 3’ X 3’)
Lamps
We DO NOT accept: TV units, wall units, or entertainment units; sofas over width 7’ and Futons; odd living room chairs (gaming chairs and futon chairs); ceiling light fixtures or hanging light fixtures
Kitchen and Dining
We ACCEPT:
Kitchen and dining room tables with legs removed (under width 5' with leaf out)
Kitchen and dining room chairs (only sets of 2 chairs or more)
Microwave stands
Dishes, glasses, kitchen utensils, cookware
Kitchen linens
Small kitchen appliances
Kitchen garbage can
We DO NOT accept: stools; large dining room sets; dishware with chips, cracks and badly scratched; plastic dishware (except for children dishes)
Children
We ACCEPT:
Toys (clean, not battery operated & complete sets)
Baby equipment (strollers, baby seats, toys)
Change tables
We DO NOT accept: cribs; car seats
Office
We ACCEPT:
Desks (under width 4’ and depth 20”)
Desk lamps
Office chair
Bookshelves (under width 4’ and shelf depth 14”)
We DO NOT accept: large or L shape desks; hanging bookcases; bookcases requiring complicated assembly; any unit taller than 6’ and over width 4’; printer table; office furniture items that are oversized or excessively heavy
Electric and Electronic Items
In addition to laptops, we also accept :
Flat screen TVs (27” and up)
DVD players and CD movies for children
Microwave
Clock radios
Laser printers
Recent smartphones
Recent tablets
We DO NOT accept: stereos, speakers, VCR players, inkjet printers and telephones; console, floor model and tube style TVs; large appliances like stoves, fridges, dishwashers, washers & dryers; air conditioners
Other Household Items
We ACCEPT:
Bathroom items (towels, shower curtains, bath mat)
Irons and ironing boards
Vacuum cleaners
Framed Artwork
Area rugs (no larger than 10' X 8')
Entrance mat, bedside mat, boot tray
Shoe rack
Fans
Rod pocket curtains and pocket curtains rods
Outdoor furniture (table for 4 or 2 persons, lawn chairs)
Tools (drills, hammers, etc)
We DO NOT accept: BBQ; bathroom medicine cabinets or bathroom shelving that requires hanging; medical Mobility items (bathroom assistance equipment); blinds or curtain rods with cords
